The web based market is the largest for online games with approximately 55 million players, compared to the smaller markets of massive multiplayer online games which has approximately 1.5 million players. The revenue per player is however much greater for massive multiplayer online games.
Most popular web based games include puzzle games, card games such as solitaire and word games.
There is currently a market of 55 million casual gamers. It has grown from 39 million in 2000. These are gamers not willing to shell out monthly subscription fees for online games.
